Student Programs

Are you a college student interested in catering, event and floral design, hospitality, audio-visual production, wedding coordination and the like? Join ILEA to get a taste of these exciting careers while pursuing your degree! The St. Louis Chapter of ILEA encourages students interested in the special events fields to get involved with the organization. We offer several opportunities for students:

Discounted Meeting Registration Fees – ILEA offers a student registration rate for monthly educational programs. The small fee of $20 covers your meal cost for the event. Students must be pursuing an event related career and present a valid student ID upon entering the event. The lucky recipients of our Student Scholarships may attend monthly educational programs at no charge. We encourage you to apply!

Discounted Annual Dues – To become an “official” Student Member of ILEA, students can join ILEA for a discounted annual dues rate of $35. Just complete the online student membership application. Or, you can download an application form. Once complete, please forward to our V.P. of Education with your dues.

Hands-On Event Experience – As part of the Student Member program, students must complete a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer service to the St. Louis Chapter. It is easy to complete your service hours by volunteering to work at our meetings and special events. These projects are fun and a great way to get hands-on experience in the field. There are a variety of service opportunities including; helping set-up event linens and décor, working at the registration table, assisting back stage at the Louie Awards, organizing auctions, etc…As you work, you will get to know the area’s best event specialists. Who knows, one of them could be interviewing you in the future! Imagine how this can provide you with an advantage during your career search.

Student Committee Opportunities – As part of your Student Membership, you can participate in our Student Committee. This committee is lead by a Student Member and is designed to foster networking and organization between students.

Currently, the St. Louis Chapter is looking for the next ILEA Student Committee Chair. This leader will be the liaison between the Board of Directors and the ILEA Student Members.

Student Scholarship Program – Each year the chapter offers multiple student scholarships for the best and brightest special event college students who have the desire to experience career building opportunities. The St. Louis Chapter underwrites

Student Memberships, covering one year's student dues plus educational meeting costs. Our V.P. of Education contacts local university event program educators to spread the word about the program.

Students or educators interested in the Student Scholarship Program should download and complete the ILEA Student Application. Next, compose an essay of 100 words or less discussing why you want to pursue a career in the event industry and why you should be a Scholarship recipient. Both items must be submitted via email to

Internship Program – Currently, over 30 ILEA Member businesses have internships available for ILEA Student Members.Please see our web page about Internships for more information.

Student Fellowship Program – The Fellowship Program is the essence of a well-rounded event industry experience! The St. Louis Chapter is proud to be the first Chapter to develop and implement this ground-breaking experiential program.

The recipient of this Fellowship will shadow multiple Board Members at their respective and varied businesses. One Fellowship will be awarded. The recipient will spend up to two days with each business leader, exposing the recipient to some of the following possible disciplines; Event Planning, Coordination and Management, Design and Décor, Audio-Visual Production, Rental Services, Promotional Marketing, Fundraising, Destination Management, Floral Design and Catering.

The recipient will attend one debrief of our Chapter’s monthly Board of Director’s Meeting and participate in facilitating monthly programs and implementation of two premiere special events, the Louie Awards Gala and the Trolley Tour.

Upon completion of the program, the recipient is required to write an article for the Chapter Newsletter, summarizing the experience.

Students interested in the Student Fellowship Program should download and complete the ILEA Student Application. Next, compose an essay of 100 words or less discussing why you want to pursue a career in the event industry and why you should be chosen for the Fellowship Program.
